Recently, I updated my personal and my company’s profile on Linkedin. As you know, Linkedin is a professional social networking tool. When I started using Linkedin some years back, it was not really popular in South Africa. That has changed dramatically. If you run a business or need to present yourself professionally online, you want to have an active Linkedin profile. Linkedin makes it easy and guides you through the process of setting up a complete profile page for your own brand. This includes a professional portrait of yourself.
Have you ever googled your name? Do me a favor and do it right now. Most likely you will find that one of the first results for your name is either your Linkedin profile or Facebook page. Can you see, why I think it is so important to set up your Linkedin profile completely? It is not done in five minutes. Take some time and thought to develop your page and you will get far more benefit out of it.
There is some excellent advice available on the internet to help you with your Linkedin experience. I am on Linkedin now what is one of these resources. Jason Alba gives some excellent advice on how to maximize Linkedin for your purpose. Apply some of his tips and you are on your way to make better use of your social networking tools.
Another step in tapping into the power of professional online networking, is to add all your contacts you know to Linkedin and invite them to connect with you. Continue to do so with everyone you meet new. You will be able to connect and stay up to date with updates from your contacts.
One more thing: I can’t help you writing a better Linkedin profile. I can help you with a professional headshot and portrait. It is not as expensive as you might think (I charge per image you choose) and also far more fun than you imagine. Click here for some examples.
