great pics man it was emotional hey i was standing at grooter schuur building and the view was marvelous

    • Jurgen August 22, 2010 at 15:41 #

Thank you, Phumlani. I was amazed by how many people parked on the M3 and watched from there. The towers were a landmark. Quite something that they were gone in seconds.

Thank-you for capturing, this historical moment. The Towers, were there before I came into the world. Good-bye towers, good by Cape Town and Cape Flats land mark. You served us well.

    • Jurgen August 22, 2010 at 15:46 #

Thanks Althea. I didn’t know Cape Town without them either, though my history with the city is a bit shorter than yours :)

Nice work, J. Glad to see you weren’t asleep at the switch :) )
Just to add noise to the stream, the towers were being built when my parents and I moved to the Cape.
    Sad to see them go.

Thanks Andre. It will take a while to get used to not having them around anymore. Did you have any chance to take some pics of them today?

    • Jurgen August 22, 2010 at 16:25 #

  7. Anine August 22, 2010 at 16:35 #

great pics…I could not be there but this is really nice and think one can see much more in the images you captured than you could if you were actually watching

    • Jurgen August 22, 2010 at 16:39 #

Anine, that is such a nice compliment. The implosion was so quickly over and from where I was standing, you didn’t even hear any noise. It was almost surreal.

DARN! I wish they hadn’t demolished them! They have been one of the main landmarks in Cape Town, and have been there as long as I can remember!

Really great pics. I was watching from the M5, camera and all, but didnt get a single picture as everything happened so fast and ahead of time. Well done, really fantastic pics!

    • Jurgen August 22, 2010 at 20:01 #

Thank you Shireen. The early start almost caught me off guard. It was amazing how busy it was. The traffic afterwards was worse than any afternoon traffic.

Woah! I love these photographs. I’m a photography student, currently in my third year (soon to graduate)… I absolutely love black and white photography, there’s just always been something about it that I’ve always found so mesmerizing. So what camera and lens did you use to get these awesome photographs?
I really can’t believe that the towers are gone. I took a panorama of the cooling towers and had that on display for my third evaluation and everyone loved it. I went back and did a panorama last week and it’s just so odd that they’re gone.

      Thank you, Gaireyah.
It’s now a few months since the implosion and whenever I pass there, I still miss the towers.
      Good luck on your graduation.
